Divisibility Rule by 4

If the last 2 digits of a given number is divisible by 4 then we can say that the given number is divisible by 4.



Example : Is 244 divisible by 4?

Solution : Last 2 digits are 44. Now divide it by 4 (44 /4 = 11)

Means 244 is divisible by 4

 

Example : Is 171 divisible by 4?

Solution : Last 2 digits are 71. Now divide it by 4 (71 / 4 = 17.75)

Means 171 is not divisible by 4. Because 17.75 is not a whole number.


Divisibility Rule by 4


Point to be noted : Number is divisible by 4 only if its last digit is even number. So don't check numbers ending with odd digits.

Which of the following numbers are divisible by 4?


453436, 4520, 234148, 43426, 98656, 456785, 34254


Solution:


453436 - 36/4 = 9 Hence divisible by 4


4520 - 20/4 = 5 Hence divisible by 4


234148 - 48/4 = 12 Hence divisible by 4


43426 - 26/4 = 6.5 Hence not divisible by 4


98656 - 56/4 = 14 Hence divisible by 4


456785 - 85/4 = 21.25 Hence not divisible by 4 As last digit is odd number


34254 - 54/4 = 13.5 Hence not divisible by 4
