Divisibility Rule by 8

If the last 3 digits of a given number is divisible by 8 then we can say that the given number is divisible by 8.

Example: Is 1456 divisible by 8?

Solution: Last 3 digits are 456. Now divide it by 8 (456 /8 = 57)

Means 1456 is divisible by 8.

 

Example: Is 4832 divisible by 8?

Solution: Last 3 digits are 832. Now divide it by 8 (832 / 8 = 104)

Means 4832 is divisible by 8.

 

Point to be noted:

1. Number is divisible by 8 only if its last digit is even number. So don't check number ending with odd digits.

2. If the last 3 digits of a given number is Zero then given number is also divisible by 8.

 

Example: Is 98245 divisible by 8?

Solution: Last digit is odd number. Means 98245 is not divisible by 8.

Let’s have practice for Divisibility rule by 8.

Which of the following numbers are divisible by 8?

2328, 65168, 14824, 14238, 3458, 432000

 

Solution:

2328 - 328 / 8 = 41. Hence, Divisible by 8.

65168 - 168 / 8 = 21. Hence, Divisible by 8.  

14824 - 824 / 8 = 103. Hence, divisible by 8.

14238 - 238 / 8 = 29.75 which is not divisible by 8.

3458 - 458 / 8 = 57.25 which is not divisible by 8.

432000 - Last 3 digits are Zero. Hence, divisible by 8.
