What is Simple Present Tense in English Grammar
- When an actions happens regularly.
- Used to describe habits, general truth. Proverbs and quotes, scheduled events etc…
- Verb to be used is the base form.
Words to recognize Simple Present Tense:
Everyday, Daily, always, often, usually etc…
Examples:
Habits:
- I live in Anand.
- She lives in Anand.
- He plays Cricket daily.
- I often like chocolates.
- I always wake up early in the morning.
To describe schedule events:
- The train arrives at 5 O’clock.
- Bansari comes in 5 minutes.
General Truth:
- Water freezes at zero degrees.
- The Earth revolves around the Sun.
- Sun rises in the East.
Proverbs and Quotation:
- Arise, awake and do not stop till the goal is achieve.
Use Do / Does to introduce Interrogative and negative sentences
For Interrogative Sentences:
- Do you come from Anand?
- Do you like to eat pizza?
- Does she remember things?
- Do they go on trips?
Hack: When we use do or does in an interrogative sentence, we use the base form of verb in simple present.
For Negative Sentences:
- I don’t live in London.
- I don’t play piano.
- She doesn’t drive a vehicle.
Wh questions of Simple Present Tense:
- Why does Tony talk so quickly?
- Why do they go far?
- Why does she stay here?
- When do we go on a trip?
- When does she come from London?
- When does such a thing happen?
- Where do you come from?
- Where do you live?
- What does she want?
- What do you like to eat?
- Who speaks English in our class?
- Who plays cricket well?
